Drawings of Edenbrooke

So a while back I drew some characters from a great book I read called Edenbrooke, by Julianne Donaldson.  I sent the drawings to her via email and she loved them!  Knowing how much a drawing of a character can inspire the mind, I decided to draw some more for her.  It was great fun and it helped me to practice more in perfecting my technique.

After many months I've remembered and found some time to post the drawings.  I've drawn a few more for her, but they are characters from her upcoming book called Blackmoore, and because she hasn't released the book yet, I don't want to take her thunder and reveal any characters from it.

This is the second time I've drawn a horse... not to shabby eh?

My first attempt at a horse I drew just hours before I drew this one (it looks even cooler than this one), but I can't display it here yet.  I'll be using it in one of my books.

Anyway, back to this picture... as you can see it's a little different than the one below.  I didn't like what was around him, so I added a few aspens, clouds and hills behind him.  Taking pictures with my camera, on a cloudy day, makes the artwork look differently than it does in person.  This one turned out too light, but there's not much I can do about that.

After drawing horses, I think I've decided to try my hand at drawing them more often. :)

So I did.

I wish I could show you more drawings.

Most of the pics I draw are for my books and I don't want to reveal them as yet.

So, this is a rare treat I get to share with you now.

It's about time!

Yes I know that I haven't posted in over a year, but I have a good exuse.

I have been working hard on the three posts below AND I've been writing books.

How many books you ask?  Right now the number is at seven.  I've finished writing two

of those books but I'm working on illustrating them.  I hope to have at least 20 pieces of art in each book--if I get to use my own artwork.  It's taking all my free time and I'm starting to feel a little bit like a recluse.

I hope to soon have them published, and when I do, I will let you know.  Well, I need to go and get to work!

GOING BIG!

This last spring I was asked to paint a float for the state parade!

I was thrilled to do it and spent many hours working on it.

They asked me to paint the murals on the books.  There are three books

in this float... the large one... the one that the grandma is holding...

and the big one in the front.

The page turns mechanically and out comes a town center.

It's prett cool to see the video.  Unfortunately the only video I got

of it turning is very blurry.  I was able to paint all four pages of the book.

The hardest part of it all was taking it apart and throwing it away... yes.. I had to throw it away.

There was no room for it anywhere. :(



Preschool Mural

This was a blast to paint.  I went to visit my brother and his family and

decided to paint their basement to get them ready for

teaching preschool.

I painted insects and bird along the fence and on the tree

I used lightweight spackle to make the trunk of

the tree textured for a 3D look.
